The State of California introduced their Water Efficiency program that will force California Water Districts in to even more conservation measures. This legislation has a direct effect on the Prop 218 process because it will bring the District into compliance with the State of California's SB 606 and AB 1668. The mandates will fall on the water suppliers, not customers. They will force water districts to impose strict conservation measures beginning in 2022. Beginning November 2023, each water agency will be responsible to calculate it's own objective. Those agencies that do not comply may be subject to enforcement by the State Water Board.
The water use standard will be 55 gallons per person, per day until January 2025. That standard will change in time decreasing to 50 gallons per day in January 2030. Read the release here.
